CD of the Day: ‘Salt,’ Forget Cassettes (2006)

I bought this CD because a blogger recommended it to those mourning the demise of Sleater-Kinney. The comparison is apt, as Forget Cassettes boil over with raw, challenging, explosive rock.

However, I could never get much into “Salt” because the songs are just too looooong; five of the nine tracks hover around the six-minute mark, and there’s only one under four. Forget Cassettes could’ve used an editor. Often these tracks seem to stitch together two completely different ideas; perhaps splitting them up would’ve made them more palatable.
